MILLENNIAL PINK (2016-2020)
This body of work explores traditional portraiture, collage based painting, and still life. The work is a highly experimental series for me as I gradually made my way back to figurative paintings after a long break. Floral and botanical motifs are placed in proximity to hard edges and abruptly cut off imagery. This series was started shortly after the birth of my first son and is derived from a shift in perspective towards a more delicate sensibility, while retaining a sense of tension and trepidation. The collage based paintings are on a larger scale and were influenced by a day trip to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC where I saw James Rosenquist’s iconic large scale painting F-111.
